If you want a career in early years education or want to progress to a degree in Primary Teaching, but just missed out on gaining grade 4 in English or Maths in school, this T-Level transition course will give you the opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of working with children in nurseries or schools alongside re-sitting your English and/or Maths GCSE.
You will be provided with an industry placement benefiting from experience in one or more local nursery or primary school settings, learn about child development, the early years curriculum as well as the importance of play and early childhood attachment.
The course is delivered by our expert T-Level lecturers, who have all worked in early years and school settings.
The T Level transition course will give you a broad understanding of working with children in early years or school settings.
You will learn about:
- Child development
- Play and attachment
- Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum
- Working with children with Special Educational Needs
- Planning for and assessing children
- Teaching techniques
You will also practise some of the technical skills needed to work with children and develop the confidence to work with a range of age groups in different environments.
Entry Requirements
- 4 GCSEs grade 3 or above, including English.
- A successful interview with a tutor
- The ability to study independently
- A genuine interest in the subject
- Good communication skills
After Your Course
Students who complete this T-Level transition course progress to the T-Level in Education and Childcare, subject to achieving Grade 4 in English and Maths.
The T-Level in Education and Childcare is a two-year programme equivalent to three A-Levels. It provides students with a license to practice in childcare and provides the opportunity for students to attend university to study primary school teaching.
Many students who study Education and Childcare also progress to rewarding careers, including:
- Pastoral worker in schools
- Special Educational Needs practitioner
- Learning support worker in schools and colleges
- Children's mental health support worker

The fee displayed is the course fee. Course fees are charged per course for full-time students. There is the opportunity to pay in instalments if your course has a duration of 15 weeks or over. You may qualify for financial support to cover the cost of this government-funded qualification if any of the below apply to you:
- You are aged 16 to 18 on 31st August of the relevant academic year and are not studying at another school or college
- Have a gross annual income of less than GBP25,000 (means-tested benefit or salary)
- Have a household income under GBP35,000 and are in financial hardship (bursary funding)
